On 9 October 2026 the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) published how people in Czechia married in 2025. We picked out what is useful to know when you are planning a wedding here: how many weddings there were, in which months and on which days, at what age people marry and how often with a foreigner.
The statistics do not say how much a wedding costs or how many guests come, though. We fill that in from WeMarry’s own anonymised data: more than 500 weddings dated in 2025 that couples planned with us. They show the planned budget, where the money goes, the number of guests and the favourite months. How we calculated it is at the end of the article.

The fewest weddings in a hundred years
In 2025 Czechia had 42,548 weddings. That is about 1,900 (4%) fewer than in 2024, the third fall in a row and the lowest number since the end of the First World War. The previous low was 43,499 weddings in 2013.

The Covid year 2020 cut weddings by 17%, and in 2022 the number came back almost to the 2019 level. Since then it has been falling: by 12% in 2023, by 8% in 2024 and by 4% in 2025.
Fewer weddings does not mean free dates, though. Most couples want the same summer Saturdays, so popular venues and vendors are still in high demand.
When Czechs marry: June to September
The busiest month in 2025 was June (7,653 weddings), followed by August (7,058) and September (6,518). June to September together account for 62% of all weddings in the year. The quietest months were January (800), December (1,035) and February (1,037).
May did much better than usual: it had 30% more weddings than in 2024 (4,549 instead of 3,486). The Czech Statistical Office puts this down to a pretty date, the combination of the fifth month and the year 2025. Younger couples, where both partners are under 25, spread their weddings more evenly through the year, with fewer in summer and more from January to March.
Among couples planning with WeMarry, summer is even stronger. In our data June to September makes up 73.5%, and the busiest month is August with 20.2%.

Saturday or Friday?
Saturday is the clear favourite: it has 64% of all weddings, an average of 523 weddings per Saturday. Friday has 24.6%, Thursday 4.5% and Sunday only 1.2%.
The busiest single day was Saturday 6 September 2025, when 1,513 couples married. It was followed by Saturdays 7 June (1,435) and 21 June (1,424). The busiest Fridays were 6 June (645) and 8 August (582). The only day other than a Friday or Saturday among the 85 most popular dates was Sunday 25 May 2025, with 196 weddings. A pretty date again.
Pretty dates are popular, so they get booked earlier. In 2027, for example, 27 February, 27 March, 17 July and 27 November 2027 fall on a Saturday. 7 July 2027 is a Wednesday. If you have your heart set on one of these dates, contact the venue and vendors as early as you can.
How old brides and grooms are
At a first marriage in 2025, brides were 30.9 years old on average and grooms 32.8. The gap of 1.9 years is smaller than two years for the first time since the 1960s.
| Brides | Grooms | |
|---|---|---|
| Average age at first marriage | 30.9 | 32.8 |
| Most common age group | 25–29 (26.4%) | 30–34 (23.4%) |
| 35 and older | 41.2% | 51.6% |
| Under 25 | 10.7% | 4.9% |
The share of brides and grooms aged 35 and over has been growing in recent years. Today it is 41.2% of all brides and more than half of all grooms.
First or second time
In 2025, 75.0% of grooms and 74.6% of brides were marrying for the first time. So for every three first marriages there is one remarriage. In 65.5% of weddings both partners were marrying for the first time, in 14.2% both were divorced.
One wedding in six involves a foreigner
In 2025 there were 6,914 weddings where at least one partner was a foreign national, or 16.2%. That is a new record. For the first time, Czech men married a foreign woman (2,521 weddings) more often than Czech women married a foreign man (2,342).
- Czech women most often married a Slovak (799), a German (176) or a Ukrainian (137).
- Czech men most often married a Ukrainian (835), a Slovak (747), a Russian (152) or a Vietnamese woman (106).
When some of your guests do not speak Czech, a wedding website in their language helps. The WeMarry wedding website has built-in texts in 12 languages. On the Medium and Premium plans, the site also automatically translates what you write about your wedding yourselves.
How much a wedding costs
The Czech Statistical Office does not track wedding costs, so we looked at our own data. Couples who planned a wedding dated in 2025 in WeMarry set a median budget of CZK 250,000 (about €10,000; the average was CZK 276,539). This is the budget planned in the app, not receipts after the wedding.

The most money goes on catering, 27.6% of the budget. Together with the venue (12.8%) that is more than 40%. A fifth of the budget is other items and amounts couples did not put into any category.
| Category | Share of budget |
|---|---|
| Catering | 27.6% |
| Venue | 12.8% |
| Dress and suit | 7.2% |
| Rings | 6.6% |
| Photographer | 6.1% |
| Flowers | 5.1% |
| Accommodation | 4.8% |
| Music | 4.6% |
| Cake | 2.5% |
| Video | 1.8% |
| Make-up and hair | 1.3% |
| Stationery | 0.6% |
| Transport | 0.2% |
| Other and uncategorised | 19.0% |
The number of guests and the catering are closely linked: every extra guest raises the biggest item in the budget. That is why it pays to have your guest list ready before you sign a contract with a venue.
How many guests to invite
Weddings in 2025 planned in WeMarry had a median of 63 guests (average 67.8). Half of the weddings had up to 63 guests, half had more.
What it means for your planning
- Book a summer Saturday well ahead. Most couples want June to September and a Saturday.
- Consider a Friday, or May, September and October. Friday has a quarter of all weddings, and outside the peak season there is less competition for dates.
- Book a pretty date first. Dates like 27 February 2027 or 17 July 2027 will be popular with other couples too.
- Start your budget with catering and the venue. Together they make up over 40% of planned spending.
- Settle the number of guests before the venue. It decides the size of the room and the bill for food.
How we calculated it
- Czech Statistical Office: the publication Population Development of the Czech Republic 2025, chapter on marriages, published on 9 October 2026 (summary on the ČSÚ website, in Czech). The numbers of weddings for 2018 to 2024 come from the office’s public database.
- WeMarry: our own anonymised data, a sample of more than 500 weddings dated in 2025 that couples planned in WeMarry. We only work with totals, medians and shares, never with data on individual couples. We included planned budgets from CZK 20,000 to CZK 5 million and weddings with 10 to 400 guests. The numbers describe couples who plan online, not all weddings in Czechia.
